Ulster Visit

I flew from Boston to Shannon, experienced a windy landing, then took off for Dublin. My plans were to bus to Newry where the Lyttle's would pick me up - noon'ish. As I was at the bus stop at 8am, I had a long wait. Fortunately a waiting passenger told me there was an Aircoach bus at 9am. I did board this bus and called the Lyttle's to race to Newry to pick me up. Nice service Aircoach. They run from the Dublin Airport every hour north. They also offer a bus from the airport in a continuous route circling the city as far out as Ballsbridge / Donnybrook. That worked for me on my return. Other routes also. I would recommend Aircoach.

The bus got into Newry early and I hoped the Lyttle's would find me - Aircoach does not go to the regular bus terminals. I was noticed, and as Jim is good at U-turns, they were there! The sun was shining and the Daffodils were blooming - oh happy day! It was a quiet day with a nap for me!

Our first trip was north and west from Derryhale, Co. Armagh to Dungiven and Bovevagh in Co. Londonderry. It was the homeplace of a high school friend's ancestors, and I planned to take some photos and see if I could find more info for her. The landscape was lovely. This is looking back from Bovevagh Road towards the east and the Sperrin Mountains.

The next day we traveled to County Monaghan for a couple of quick visits and a photo stop at a townland of my ancestors. First stop was in south Armagh for sheep - I love sheep, especially in the spring when the lambs are frolicking! Think these lambs were staying warm!

Townland of Gragernagh in County Monaghan. Found the right place as a local gentleman invited us into his house, served tea, then said go to the lane to the side, and take pictures on both sides. You are here! Photo shows Gragernagh to Ballybay in the background.

Another day we visited the area of South County Down: Warren Point and the Narrow Water Keep, Rostrevor and the Mountains of Mourne - one of my absolute favorite places.

Time came to leave the Lyttle's and head for Dublin and research.
